Terms of Service

The following language is to help us define as a community our expectations of one another during the operations of The Black Farm CSA.

What is the Black Farm CSA? The Black Farm CSA is a community of people who purchase fresh produce grown by our network of black and value aligned farmers. The Dreaming Out Loud Food Hub launched Black Farm CSA to provide fresh produce to DMV residents and to support under food access in under resourced communities.

When does the season begin and end?: The Black Farm CSA season starts in March of 2022 and ends in December 2022.The Black Farm CSA is a year-round weekly subscription service.  During this season we are offering a weekly subscription that can be renewed or cancelled at any time.

What does the Black Farm CSA Subscription come with? A weekly share of produce from our curated list of socially disadvantaged farmers and goods from our curated list of  food producers, the Option to have your CSA Bag delivered straight to your door or picked up from your closest community site, a weekly newsletter with product debuts, new features, updates, and invitations to exclusive events and pop-ups, and access to our urban farms and local partners.

What is a share?: A share is the amount of produce you receive each week.  It is a portion of the total bounty collected from our network of farmers. In a typical CSA, your share may fluctuate based on what the farmer is actually able to harvest due to capacity, natural pests, and unnatural events. We offer three sizes for each of our shares: small, medium, and large. A share can range from 4 to 8 varieties due to the different sizes of the share themselves, number of produce, and the amount of each variety. 

How much variety of produce will I receive in a CSA share?: All shares will have a variety of 5-7 different produce items. Sizes of produce come in listed amounts such as: "bunch", "pint", "each" or "head".  Your share may vary slightly based on the availability, growing style, harvest size, and pricing from a particular farmer. The amount (3 of, for example) or count (1 pint, for example) that constitutes a variety portion depends on your share size. The amount or portion cannot be standardized because we experience varieties coming in different sizes. 

How to buy products from the Black Farm CSA online store? To buy products, you must first register an account. To register click on the "Sign Up" tab, answer the registration questions and click submit. Once you are registered, click on the "CSA Shares" for weekly subscriptions or the "All Products" tab to select the items you want. Once you've selected your items, add them to your cart. Choose your distribution location and enter your contact and billing information. Once you have reviewed your order, click confirm and you will be billed on the upcoming Friday.

How does billing work? Your card will be charged on the upcoming Friday if you are using credit/debit via the website. You will be able to pay at one of our pickup locations on your distribution day if you are using SNAP/EBT, WIC Cash Value Checks, WIC FMNP, SR. FMNP, or Produce Plus benefits.

How can I pay with my benefits? To pay with WIC CVC, WIC FMNP & Senior FMNP Customers: Come to your selected pickup location, Tell the market staff your name and that you are here to pick up your online order. Inform them you are paying with WIC CVC, WIC FMNP or Senior FMNP, After the staff member tells you your order total: hand the correct amount of signed vouchers to the Black Farm CSA staff member, and After payment is complete you will receive your order.

How can I pay with my benefits? To pay with SNAP/EBT & Produce Plus Customers: Come to your selected pickup location, Tell the market staff your name and that you are here to pick up your online order . Inform them you are paying with SNAP/EBT or Produce Plus, After the staff member tells you your order total: hand the SNAP/EBT or Produce Plus card to the Black Farm CSA staff member, and After payment is complete you will receive your order.

If You Forget Your Share? DOL is not responsible for missed shares due to missed pick-ups. If you have missed a pickup order please contact us at markets@dreamingoutloud.org to fix your problem. 

How do you ensure quality produce? To ensure quality produce, we inspect and pack all orders prior to distribution. Our goal is to provide the highest quality produce, and we require our producers and makers to deliver market-grade products. If you have received a produce/ food product that is damaged please contact us at markets@dreamingoutloud.org to make sure we fix the issue.

How does the pickup work? To pickup your CSA share, arrive at one of our pickup locations, check in with the Black Farm CSA team member, tell the market staff your name and that you are here to pick up your online order, then you will receive your CSA share .

What are the COVID19 protocols at the pickup locations? When you come to pick up your share, we ask that you abide by our COVID-19 best practices for our pickup sites. The following guidelines are strictly enforced for the safety of our team members and our customers: Masks are required (over nose and mouth), Social distancing (6 feet), No smoking (within 100 feet of the Market space), No pets (except service animals), Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID or have recently been exposed to someone with a confirmed positive case of COVID, Limit time spent at Market by pre-ordering your shares and add-ons.

Any member who does not abide by these protocols will have their subscription canceled immediately without a refund. If you have any questions or disputes regarding your share, we ask that you resolve them via email at markets@dreamingoutloud.org.

Indemnification:  Black Farm CSA customers agree to indemnify and hold harmless all Dreaming Out Loud, Inc staff, volunteers and representatives from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, damages, liabilities, judgments, settlements, expenses, fees and costs (including attorney’s fees), arising out of the operation of this Agreement, and/or CSA members’ conduct thereunder, except for Dreaming Out Loud’s own grossly negligent, reckless or willful acts. Dreaming Out Loud, Inc staff, volunteers and representatives shall in no way be responsible for any actions or omissions of CSA members and no such actions or omissions shall constitute negligence on the part of Dreaming Out Loud, Inc staff, volunteers or representatives.
